After work

Driving home from work.
As a grad student I was fortunate enough to spend my 2007-2010 field seasons in beautiful Muskoka, ON, Canada. This shot overlooks the picturesque small town of Huntsville, ON. There were lots of places to play when work was done for the day (if we ever made it out of the lab before dark of course).
Example of field accommodations.
No shortage of salamanders here...
...or flowers and their pollinators...

...or painted turtles in need of temporary fostering...
...or chipmunks...
...or frisky deer...
(more deer)
...or teeny-tiny rock bass...

...to bigger bass...

...or ducks...
...or birding opportunities...
...or black bears...
...or raging rapids...
(and tired canoe trippers)
...or pretty provincial parks...
...and of course, spiny water fleas.
A hand-caught spiny water flea, with three embryos in her broodsac. Captured while loitering by the docks in downtown Huntsville.
